Prof. Philip Weiser University of Colorado School of Law & Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Department

Prof. Weiser has a joint appointment to the School of Law and the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Department where he teaches courses on intellectual property law, antitrust, and telecommunications policy.

Today, a great deal of software is distributed under licenses that are proclaimed to be "open source" in nature. However, there is enormous variation in the provisions of these various licenses, which can substantially impact the original developer's control over the code, as well as the rights of those who create new works based on it.

Professor Weiser will discuss open source licenses in general, and then delve into the intellectual property ramifications of the terms of some popular licenses. David Allen, CU vice president for Technology Transfer, will also discuss CU's policy regarding open source licensing of faculty created software.
